Did you know that more than 50 million Americans smoke and among current U.S. adult smokers, 70% report that they want to quit smoking and millions try to quit every year. According to the CDC, tobacco is the cause of 443,000 premature deaths each year.

Nicotine is a powerful addiction. In fact, research suggests that nicotine is as addictive as heroin, cocaine, or alcohol. In this episode, find out how certain alternative treatments along with an intentional lifestyle may help you or someone you love kick this habit once and for all!

It is estimated that most smokers will attempt to quit two or three times, or more, before successfully quitting. The reasons to quit smoking are endless. Cigarettes have 4,000 chemicals, including 43 known cancer-causing (carcinogenic) compounds and 400 other toxins.

Along with the increasing social pressures to not smoke, many people want to quit because of the enormous expense of a cigarette habit or are just plain tired of being dependent on a substance.
Acupuncture and/or hypnosis are alternative approaches to smoking cessation and the success of both treatments is rapidly growing.

In fact, acupuncture is often a court mandated treatment for drug addicts because of its ability to reduce cravings and alleviate withdrawal symptoms such as irritability, anxiety and difficulty concentrating.

Hypnosis is also increasing in popularity and success rates. Hypnosis focuses on tapping into an individual’s subconscious mind and increased awareness while a client is in a deep, meditative state.

Conventional methods to quit smoking often fail and smokers often look outside mainstream approaches and turn to these alternative medicines for help. Acupuncture and hypnosis treatments are often done in combination with one another and can focus on a client’s jitters, cravings, irritability and restlessness; all symptoms that people commonly complain about when they quit smoking.

In addition to these alternative treatments, try some of these researched based suggestions to compliment your efforts.
Remember to exercise more. It can reduce your stress and help you relax during your transition. Eat plenty of fresh fruit and vegetables because their juices neutralize and clear the blood of nicotinic acid and fortify blood sugar; this will help to decrease your cravings.

Avoid junk foods, sugar and coffee if possible. They can upset blood sugar levels and increase blood acidity which can aggravate smoking withdrawal symptoms.

In addition, research shows that dryness causes cravings so sip water frequently throughout the day.

Lastly, never give up on your goal to quit smoking, you deserve it!
